Resistance

Promotional image comprised of flags flying in the background, a man with arms raised in surrender showing above rectangular monumental forms bearing the Nazi swastika symbol and the title of the piece, resistance, shown at the base.

In June 2004 Extant was successful in it's application to the Arts Council for funding to tour our first production. Hense there began a completely unique and ambitious project that not only aimed to draw together and put into action the research from our previous projects, but to also apply these to a new script by a blind writer, about a blind historic figure, and for the first time in Britain, cast a professional company of visually impaired actors to tour it across the UK and to other countries.

Dimly lit in the shadows, the snarling Major stands pulling back, behind the brightly lit younger Jacques, whose head dramatically yanks back. Close up of a face half hidden in shadow, behind a wire mesh, one eye looking out from under the lowered brim of a hat. Close up of three figures sitting and leaning at the top of the scaffold above young Jacques sitting in the centre.

More information on the process, content and outcomes of this extraordinary project can be found at the links below.
